RE: Delivery of books to Gov. Duterte High School
Kinasang'an Foundation, Inc. (KsFI) delivered the books to the abovementioned school last 2nd September
2005. The school prepared a short turn over ceremony. Program started at
8:00 a.m., while the books were taken out from the box and displayed on
stage, with two dance presentations, a modern and adaptation of the
Muslim dance to the current drum beats of modern tune and a song from
the students. The dances were choreographed by the students themselves.
Thereafter a short talk and reading of the message from Move On
Philippines by KsFI Executive Director, Atty. Fatimah Lourdes N.
Vicente. Program was culminated with the signing of the acknowledgement
receipt of the school principal.
The school already has its own school building and campus but still
ill-equipped in terms of other facilities. It is composed of mixed
Christian and Muslim students being the nearest school to a Muslim
Village. One of the school's major problems is the truancy of the children and
finding ways to keep the children away from the prevailing problem
of the community, drugs. In this, the school requested the assistance
of KsFI to work together with the school in terms of providing
workshops and lectures to parents on subjects of responsible parenting
and other related subjects on attitudinal transformation likewise to
teachers with KsFI providing the venue and resource speakers.
In addition to the books, which the children and most especially the
teachers appreciated very much, if Move On Philippines could provide funds if
not link with other agencies for the development of creative talents
of the children. The purpose is to provide a program that will harness and focus the
children's creative minds on
the promotion of arts through dance contests where there is a need for
research in order to bring about their ethnic culture as well as
composing songs of ethnic origin adapting and blending them with the
modern tune. It is, in effect, awakening their
nationalistic feelings as well as keeping their minds busy and
instilling the
importance of discipline as well as teamwork in order to win a
contest. Efforts like these will help keep the children away from drugs and influence of bad
company.
Pictures were likewise again taken from the Talomo National High School.
Some classrooms are made – up of “ amakan “ woven bamboo walls. Their
library comprises three book cabinets - - one containing the Encyclopedia
Britannica which the school bought; one containing miscellaneous books;
and the other which they newly had, contains the books you sent. The
open shelves contained pocket books as reading materials. KsFI intends
to donate likewise pocket books.
So much still needs to be done. Move On Philippines served as the key in
opening the awareness of the need for change and the possibility of
doing it. KsFI being in the forefront, is now being besieged as
consultant and community partner for the enhancement of parental role,
community involvement, strengthening teachers and leaders as well as the students relationship to
uplift deteriorating peace and order of the place.
