RE: Delivery of books and computer to Camanlangan Elementary School and
Camanlangan National High School (Compostela Valley Province)
“September 13, 2005 was the scheduled day for turning the donated
resources from Move On Philippines to Camanlangan Elementary School and
Camanlangan National High School. Both schools are located in
Camanlangan, Compostela Valley Province. It tooks us almost four hours
by bus from Davao City. The road to Camanlangan was not so good because of constant rain in
the area.
We arrived at the school around 9:45 AM, just when students were
having their recess time. We were met by Mr. Diomedes Calicdan, the
elementary school principal; Mr. Bernardino Sabacahan, the
Parents-Teachers-Community Association (PCTA) president; and Mr. Aurelio
Landa, a retired faculty member. Mrs. Aurea Paniamogan, assistant
principal of Camanlangan High School, was also there representing the
principal, Mrs. Clara Ocampo, who was on sick leave.
Faculty members of both school levels were told to gather students at
the social hall for the formal turnover of donated educational
resources. There was a simple program with opening remarks by Mr.
Calicdan who informed the whole community about the books and computer
donated by Move On Philippines to the students of Camanlangan. Two dance
numbers were also performed by students. Mr. Ben Remoquillo then
formally turned over to the respective principals the books and computer
witnessed by the PCTA president and in the midst of cheering and
applause of the whole community.
Mr. Calicdan gave his acceptance speech and followed by Mrs. Paniamogan.
Both expressed how grateful they were for the help Move On Philippines
have afforded them. Mr. Sabacahan, the PCTA president, was doubly
grateful to Move On for making the school one of its beneficiaries and
encouraged students to take good care of the books and the computer. The
program was finished at almost 11:00 AM after which a simple lunch was
shared with us by the faculty members.
It was past 12:00 noon and time again to wait for the bus that took us
back to Davao City. The way back didn’t seem as difficult anymore - -
not because the ride was more comfortable and certainly not because the
route was shorter. Remembering the children's happy faces made our trip
back to the city DIFFERENT."
