Colleagues and friends,

Great news to all!
It's my privilege to share with you the turnover of a refurbished desktop computer to Guadalupe Elementary School, Baybay, Leyte, Philippines on Friday, July 22, 2005. Guadalupe Elementary is situated in the heart of Barangay Guadalupe near the river and sea. It has 259 pupils, seven teachers and one principal. The school has three main buildings: one building has three classrooms; another building has only two classrooms; and the third building has five rooms consisting of three classrooms, principal’s office, and one room divided into Library, Museum and Clinic. Barangay Guadalupe has a population of approximately 1,860 people who are mostly fishermen, farmers and manual laborers.

Prior to the turnover of donated computer from Move On Philippines, I visited the school to inform the principal, Mr. Ernesto Omolon, of the arrival of the computer and to schedule the delivery and installation of the unit. I was informed that the school’s first PTA meeting was scheduled later that day. The principal and teachers commented that it would be good to deliver the PC unit when parents are present so that they, too, could witness the formal turnover. The principal offered to pick up the unit since he has a truck. I concurred to deliver the box later that day and the principal quickly added the turnover to the agenda for the PTA meeting. Later on, the principal came to my office with five students who eagerly helped during the transport of the unit to the school.

We were met with happy faces of parents and students who were anxiously waiting for our arrival. The former PTA president and the newly elected PTA president unloaded the box containing the PC unit and carried it to the principal's office where it was installed. Upon our arrival, the PTA meeting started with the principal’s announcement of Move On Philippines’s donation to the school children of Guadalupe Elementary. While PTA meeting was going on, I installed the unit and did a test-check to make sure all programs, educational softwares, etc., are working. An hour later, I was called into the room where the PTA meeting was being held. The principal asked that I say a few words about Move On Philippines International, Inc.

Although I was not prepared to speak before the group as I was busily completing the installation of the unit, I stood before the parents, teachers and students as representative of Move On Philippines. They listened carefully as I explained Move On Philippines’ programs for helping poor schools in remote areas in the Philippines. After my brief speech, parents and teachers asked questions including how to be a member and how to avail of support from Move On Philippines. They were all very grateful to Move On Philippines for the PC donation and were happy to learn that a printer and perhaps some dictionaries are forthcoming. On behalf of the parents, students and teachers of Guadalupe Elementary, the principal then expressed gratitude for Move On Philippines’ donation. He said that owning a PC is “a fulfillment of his dream as a Principal and that the unit will be used for the good of the students and the school as a whole." Finally, the principal signed the transmittal letter acknowledging receipt of the PC unit in the presence of parents, teachers, and PTA officers.

Students were then invited to the principal’s office for a demonstration on how to run and use the educational programs that came with the PC unit. Students happily viewed some of the educational softwares as I demonstrated how to use them. They were later on allowed to do a hands-on training on how to use the softwares.

Guadalupe Elementary School extends its sincere thanks to our donors. Words are not enough to express their appreciation for your generosity and help in whatever ways extended to them. God Bless you all and more power! Mabuhay!
